The Mobile Strategy

Your mobile strategy isn't mobile if it takes three workarounds to make it work.

I once worked in a system where employees were given smartphones with unlimited data... but couldn't access email or calendars "for privacy reasons."

The workaround? Use your phone as a hotspot so you can connect to the internet on your laptop, then check your email and update your calendar.

Insight

On paper, this looks like a privacy safeguard. In practice it created more security risks than it solved. Employees had to bring their laptops into the field and jump through additional hoops resulting in delays, frustration and missed meeting.

Why it Matters

Compliance theater is expensive and dangerous. When policies aren't stress tested against reality and real-world constraints, people find workarounds.

Workarounds are where the real risk lives.
